Council of Christian Interconfessional Advisory Committee meets at the DECR

On 26th November 2025, the Council of the Christian Interconfessional Advisory Committee (CIAC) held its meeting at the Department for External Church Relations.
Taking part in the meeting were: Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, Chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, CIAC Co-Chairman; Archbishop Paolo Pezzi, Ordinary of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of the Mother of God in Moscow, CIAC Co-Chairman; Oleg Goncharov, First Deputy Chair of the Euro-Asia Division the General Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, CIAC Co-Chairman; Subdeacon Vartan Pogosian, specialist on ethnic and religious relations of the Diocese of Russia and New Nakhichevan of the Armenian Apostolic Church; Metropolitan Eugene of Tallinn and All Estonia; Archbishop Vladimir Provorov of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Russia; Sergei Ryakhovsky, Presiding Bishop of the Russian United Union of Christians of Evangelical Faith (Pentecostals); Viktor Ignatenkov, First Deputy Chairman of the Russian Union of Evangelical Christians-Baptists; Ivan Borichevsky, Head of Administration of the Russian Church of Christians of the Evangelical Faith; Bishop Ivan Laptev of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ingria; Cor-Bishop Samano Odisho, Representative of the Assyrian Church of the East in Russia; Leonid Kartavenko, Chairman of the All-Union Fellowship of Evangelical Christians; Hieromonk Stefan (Igumnov), DECR Secretary for Inter-Christian Relations, CIAC Secretary; Priest Alexy Solovyov, Deputy Chairman of the Synodal Department for Youth Affairs; Hieromonk Mark (Akhmatkhanov) of the DECR Secretariat for Inter-Christian Relations; and others.
The participants in the meeting discussed various issues on the CIAC’s agenda.
Established in 1993, the Christian Interconfessional Advisory Committee is the largest inter-Christian platform in Eurasia. Its highest governing body is the Plenum, which ensures representation fr om each of the confessions present in the countries wh ere the CIAC operates. In between the Plenums, the Council serves as the CIAC’s permanent governing body.
