His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’ congratulated Mr Mahmoud Abbas, President of the State of Palestine, on his 90^th birthday. The text of the letter is given below.

Dear Mr President,

Please accept my heartfelt greetings on your 90^th birthday.

You are an experienced and far-sighted statesman committed to championing peace in the Palestinian land, where people have been suffering greatly in recent years, enduring severe hardships. Your work for the benefit of your fellow countrymen, your well-considered position on today’s burning issues and the dedication you show in performing your duty have earned you respect and acknowledgement in and far beyond the Middle East.

I thank you for seeing to the preservation of Christian shrines in the Palestinian land, which attract great many believers from all over the world for veneration and prayer.

On this memorable day, I wish you strength and success in your important and demanding service, and I wish lasting and just peace and welfare to the people of Palestine.
