On 4th November 2025, in the capital of the Faroe Islands – Tórshavn – celebrations took place to mark the National Unity Day of Russia and the Feast Day of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God. The event was organized by the office of the Honorary Consul of the Russian Federation to the Faroe Islands and St. Nicholas Stavropegic Parish of the Moscow Patriarchate on the Faroes with the assistance of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Kingdom of Denmark, website of the Russian Orthodox Church in Iceland reports.
During the celebrations, the Akathist to the Most Holy Theotokos was sung before her Kazan Icon which had been brought for that purpose from Iceland. The service was celebrated by Archpriest Timofei Zolotusky, rector of St. Nicholas Stavropegic Parish of the Moscow Patriarchate in Reykjavík, who takes pastoral care of the Faroe community.
Since services of the Saint Demetrios Memorial Saturday had not been celebrated on the Faroe Islands, Father Timofei performed a memorial litiya to commemorate late relatives of the local community members. Among those commemorated during the service were Metropolitan Pitirim (Nechayev), one of the founders of St. Nicholas Parish in Reykjavík, and Mr Arni Olsen Dam, former Russia’s Honorary Consul on the Faroe Islands who had made a substantial contribution to the establishment of St. Nicholas Parish on the Faroes.
