DECR Representative participates in Round Table on "The Role of Religion in Protecting Youth from Destructive Content"

On October 27, a round table on the topic "The Role of Religion in Protecting Youth from Destructive Content" was held in Moscow at the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation.

The event was organized by the Spiritual Assembly of Muslims of Russia with the support of the Commission of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation on Interethnic, Interreligious Relations and Migration, and the Foundation for Support of Islamic Culture, Science and Education.

Presentations during the round table were given by: V.Y. Zorin, Chairman of the Commission of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation on Interethnic, Interreligious Relations and Migration; Mufti A.R. Krganov, Head of the Spiritual Assembly of Muslims of Russia; Priest Vasily Losev, Head of the Secretariat of the World Russian People's Council, Head of the Legal Service of the Moscow Metropolitanate of the Russian Orthodox Church; K.L. Blazhenov, Deputy Head of the Department of National Policy and Interreligious Relations of the City of Moscow, Head of the Department for Relations with Religious Organizations; V.V. Pogosyan, Specialist in the field of national relations of the Russian and New Nakhichevan Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church; Professor R.A. Silantyev, Head of the Human Rights Center of the World Russian People's Council, Head of the Destructology Laboratory at Moscow State Linguistic University; Sh.A. Pshikhachev, Chairman of the religious organization "International Islamic Mission"; A.L. Lebedev, Rector of the Jewish University; G.A. Khizrieva, Director of the Center for Linguistic Expertise at Moscow State Linguistic University; R.A. Bunin, Advisor to the Presiding Bishop of the Russian United Union of Christians of Evangelical Faith (Pentecostals) on Interaction with Government Structures; A.S. Salimov, Chairman of the Muftiate of the Republic of Dagestan; and others.

With the blessing of the Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, Deacon Sergiy Nesterov, a staff member of the DECR Secretariat for Interreligious Relations, was present at the meeting.

During the event, topics related to the role of religious organizations in preserving Russian traditional spiritual and moral values and in preventing the spread of radical ideology among youth were raised. Examples were also given of cultural, moral, and informational influence on the worldview of adolescents through the development of creative initiatives, support for youth projects, the creation of high-quality media content, and the formation of value orientations.
