DECR representative attends a meeting of the World Coordinating Council of Russian Compatriots

On October 28, Moscow hosted the 54th meeting of the World Coordinating Council of Russian Compatriots Living Abroad. The meeting, which was attended by heads of the Council’s divisions and working bodies and heads and representatives of regional councils of Russian compatriots' organizations, was chaired by Mikhail V. Drozdov, the Council chairman.
Among the invited guests were Gennady A. Ovechko, director of the Department for Work with Compatriots Abroad of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and executive secretary of the Government Commission on Compatriots Living Abroad; Igor Yu. Chaika, deputy head of Rossotrudnichestvo; Dmitry Yu. Kozhayev, director of the Moscow House of Compatriots; Viktor A. Moskvin, director of the Alexander Solzhenitsyn House of Russian Abroad; Alexander I. Udaltsov, director of the Foundation for the Support and Protection of the Rights of Compatriots Living Abroad.
Archpriest Sergy Zvonarev, secretary for Far Abroad Affairs, represented the Moscow Patriarchate's Department for External Church Relations. He welcomed those gathered on behalf of the DECR chairman, Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, and spoke about the Church's experience of cooperation with government agencies and foundations and the Government of Moscow in supporting compatriots abroad. Also, he shared plans for a roundtable discussion dedicated to cooperation between the Russian Orthodox Church and compatriots living in the Middle East and Africa, to be held in November with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus'.
The participants discussed the preparations for the World Thematic Conference titled "80th Anniversary of the Great Victory. Preserving Historical Truth" to be held in Moscow on October 29-30, issues pertaining to protection of rights and legitimate interests of compatriots and interaction with young compatriots, as well as other topics.
