DECR representative attends the All-Russian Scientific and Practical Conference

On May 15, the historical park "Russia - My History" in Makhachkala, the capital of Dagestan republic, hosted a plenary session of the All-Russian Scientific and Practical Conference on the topic "The Contribution of Religious Figures to the Victory in the Great Patriotic War."
The conference has been organized by the Dagestan Institute of Humanities.
Among those taking part in the conference were Mr. Enrik Muslimov, Minister for National Policy and Religious Affairs of the Republic of Dagestan; Ms. Galilna I. Teplykh, executive director of the Scientific and Educational Theological Association (online); Mr. Damir Khairetdinov, deputy director of the Foundation for Support of Islamic Culture, Science and Education; associate professor Nukhkadi Bakhmudkadiev, rector of the Dagestan Institute of Humanities; Doctor of sciences in Islamic studies Muhammad Magomedov, rector of the Dagestan Islamic University; Ms.Yelena A.Yelnikova, deputy of the People's Assembly of the Republic of Dagestan; Prof. Dr. Roman A. Silantyev, head of the Laboratory of Destructology of the Moscow State Linguistic University; and other government officials, scientists, experts, and religious and public figures from sixteen regions of Russia.
Hieromonk Grigory (Matrusov), a staff member of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, spoke at the plenary session with the blessing of Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, the DECR chairman. In his report on the topic "Faith in God is a Key Factor of the Great Victory" hieromonk Grigory said that faith in God, which for centuries has been the basis for life of the peoples of Russia was an integral part of the victory over fascism despite the struggle against religion in the Soviet Union.
Also attending the conference was hieromonk Ioann (Anisimov), head of the Department for Church’s Relations with Society and Mass Media of the Diocese of Makhachkala.
The plenary was preceded by section sessions on "Religion and Patriotism during the Great Patriotic War" held at the Bashlarov Medical College and on "War, Identity and Historical Memory" held at the Pedagogical College of Humanities.
At the end of the plenary session, the participants laid flowers at the Eternal Flame in the Lenin Komsomol Park located in the centre of Makhachkala.
