On fake letters sent to Russian Orthodox Church’s dioceses requesting rooms for namaz
DECR Communication Service, 10/03/2025
In early March 2025, a number of diocesan bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church received forged letters allegedly sent by senior officials of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Russian Federation asking to provide rooms for prayer to Muslims.
The Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate hereby informs that the aforementioned mail-out was deliberate provocation intended to create division and disorder in society and undermine the long-standing relations between Orthodox Christians and Muslims in Russia, who are united by their shared commitment to traditional values but reject any doctrinal or ritual colligation and compromises.
We point out that on 6th March 2025 the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Russian Federation published a statement on its official website clarifying that the aforementioned mail-out of forged letters had been provocation. The authors of the statement ask to ignore those letters and check if the sender’s contact details are accurate.
