On January 20, the Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia hosted the fourth scientific readings on the topic “Relations between Russia and Korea: 120 years ago and now” as a tribute to the memory of a Korean diplomat Yi Bum-jin.
Taking part in the online readings with the blessing of Archbishop Feofan of Korea was hieromonk Pavel (Choi), a cleric of the Diocese of Korea.
In his report entitled “On the current state of the Russian Orthodox Church in the Republic of Korea” he spoke about the historical background of the Russian Orthodox Church’s presence in South Korea, the present-day ecclesiastical life, and the importance and meaning of the Diocese of Korea for the Russian-speaking and indigenous population in the country. The diocesan press service reports that the presentation was met with great interest by the organizers and participants.
