DECR Chairman participates in a meeting of the government commission on compatriots living abroad

On January 20, 2025, a regular meeting of the Government Commission on Compatriots Living Abroad was held at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the chairmanship of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov.

The event was attended by members of the Federation Council and deputies of the State Duma who are part of the commission, as well as representatives of federal and regional executive authorities, leaders of public organizations, and foundations.

Among the participants was Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations (DECR) of the Moscow Patriarchate.

The attendees discussed the results of the 8th World Congress of Russian Compatriots, which took place in Moscow on October 30–31, 2024, as well as prospects for further work with the diaspora abroad.

One of the topics raised during the meeting was the interaction between the overseas parishes of the Russian Orthodox Church and Russian-speaking communities in foreign countries. Additionally, the list of candidates for awards under the Government Commission on Compatriots Living Abroad was reviewed, along with several other issues.
