Patriarchal Exarch of Africa celebrates Liturgy in the Church of St. Mark the Ascetic in Egypt’s Eastern Desert

The monastic delegation of the Russian Orthodox Church, led by Metropolitan Konstantin of Zaraysk, Patriarchal Exarch of Africa, continues its pilgrimage to the Christian holy sites in Egypt. The visit is taking place with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’ and at the invitation of His Holiness Coptic Patriarch Tawadros II within the framework of the activities carried out by the Commission for Dialogue between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Coptic Orthodox Church.
On 10th November 2024, 20th Sunday after Pentecost, Metropolitan Konstantin of Zaraysk celebrated the Liturgy at the Monastery of St. Paul the Anchorite in the Eastern Desert near the Red Sea. The divine service took place in the Church of St. Mark the Ascetic built in a cave where the saint’s cell used to be, website of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa reports.
Among those who attended the Liturgy were the delegation members and the faithful from the Russian Orthodox Church’s parish in Hurghada.
That same day, Bishop Yevfimy of Lukhovitsy, an auxiliary bishop of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa, celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Parish of St. Sergius of Radonezh in Cairo. Concelebrating with the hierarch was Archpriest Alexy Mashkov, rector of the Exarchate’s parishes in Egypt. Praying at the service were the faithful of the Russian Orthodox Church residing in the capital of Egypt.
