Hierarch of the Patriarchate of Antioch officiates at celebration of the Kazan Icon at the Russian Church metochion in Damascus

On November 4, the feast day of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, Bishop Moses of Larissa, with the blessing of His Beatitude Patriarch John X of Antioch and All the East, celebrated Matins and the Divine Liturgy in the church of Hieromartyr Ignatius the God-Bearer at the metochion of the Russian Orthodox Church in Damascus. The hierarch was assisted by Archimandrite Philip (Vasiltsev), representative of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus' to the Patriarchal Throne of Antioch, and Rev. Fid Jabar.
The service was celebrated in Church Slavonic and Arabic, the metochion’s website reports. At the Litany of Fervent Supplication, special petitions were offered and a prayer for Holy Rus' was recited.
Among those praying in the church were members of the Russian-speaking Orthodox communities from the cities of Latakia and Homs. Their pilgrimage to Damascus was organized with the assistance of the Union of Orthodox Women.
After the dismissal, Bishop Moses warmly greeted Archimandrite Filipp and the parishioners and conveyed to them the primatial blessing of His Beatitude Patriarch John X. Also, Bishop Moses spoke about the veneration of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God in Russia and congratulated all those present on the feast day of the miracleworking icon.
Archimandrite Filipp cordially thanked the hierarch for celebrating the festive service and for his good wishes to the community, and proclaimed Many Years to the Primates of the Antiochian and Russian Orthodox Churches.
After the service, a talk about the Kazan Icon of the Most Holy Mother of God and National Unity Day took place in metochion’s parish hall.
During the talk, a greeting from the Representation of the Union of Orthodox Women was read out by the head of its Syrian branch, Ms Galina Khachaturian.
At the end of the talk, Bishop Moses and Archimandrite Filipp answered questions from the worshippers.
