DECR Communications Service, 25.10.2024.
The Eikôn Publishing House has released a two-volume edition of translation of the Lives of Saints of Lyon into French and Russian. The books make up the third and fourth volumes of the Saints bilingues series.
The two-volume edition is to honour the memory of the saints who shone forth in the ancient Lugdunum. The publication is timed to coincide with the centenary of the Intercession Parish in Lyon founded in 1924, website of the Chersonesus Diocese reports.
The first volume contains a new translation of ‘The Letter of the Churches of Vienna and Lyons’ written by Christians who survived the persecution of 177. Also, the book includes the translation of a Latin sermon delivered by the nameless Gallic preacher in the 1520s on the commemoration day of hieromartyr Blandina of Lyons celebrated on the 2nd of July.
The second volume includes translations of ancient texts related to the memory of the local saints of Lyon: ‘The Martyrdom of Ss. Irenaeus, Antiochus and Benignus,’ the ancient ‘Life of St. Justus,’ poems by bishop and poet Sidonius Apollinaris in honour of St. Patiens, as well as the ancient ‘Life of St. Nicetas of Lyons.’
Offered in the publication is a dictionary of rare terms and a map that shows the mentioned places.
The translation from ancient Greek and Latin into French and Russian was done by Rev. Sergiy Kim, rector of the Intercession parish in Lyon.
