Lyon celebrates 100th Anniversary of the Intercession Parish

On October 13, celebrations were held in Lyon, France, to mark the 100th anniversary of the Church of the Intercession of the Holy Mother of God, an oldest parish in the Diocese of Chersonesus and the Exarchate of Western Europe. The anniversary celebrations and the Divine Liturgy in the parish church were led by Metropolitan Nestor of Chersonesus and Western Europe, Patriarchal Exarch of Western Europe.
He was assisted by Rev. Sergy Kim, rector of the parish; archpriest Quentin de Castelbajac of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, rector of the parish of St. John the Warrior in Lyon; hieromonk Joseph (Pavlinchuk) and Rev. Daniel Naberezhny, who had served at the parish earlier; deacon Gleb Zaika, secretary of the Administration of the Diocese of Spain and Portugal; and deacon Antony Ivashin of the Church of the Three Hierarchs in Paris.
Metropolitan Nestor and the parishioners were greeted by archpriest Peter Simeonov, rector of the parish of St. Simeon of Vratsa, the Bulgarian Orthodox Church.
The liturgical hymns were sung by the parish choir conducted by A.S. Vasilenko, website of the Diocese of Chersonesus reports.
At the end of the Liturgy, the Patriarchal Exarch and the concelebrating clergy performed glorification in front of the icon of the Intercession of the Mother of God.
After that, Metropolitan Nestor addressed those gathered in the church with an archpastoral homily, congratulated the clergy and parishioners with the centenary, and presented hierarchal charters to the rector, the warden, the choirmaster, and members of the parish council.
Then, while offering the cross for veneration, he presented each family with the two-volume edition about the saints of Lyons published for the 100th anniversary of the Intercession parish in Lyon. The book was prepared by Rev. Sergiy Kim.
The festive meal was arranged in the renovated refectory hall, a part of which was given to an exhibition dedicated to the history of the Intercession parish.
