The Choir of the Holy Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius and the Moscow Theological Academy performed concerts in Ethiopia

From September 25 to 27, 2024, the United Choir of the Holy Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius and the Moscow Theological Academy, under the direction of Hieromonk Nestor (Volkov), visited Ethiopia.

On September 25, the choir held a concert at the Trinity University in Addis Ababa, attended by the university rector, co-chair of the Joint Commission between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Ethiopian Church, Archbishop Abuna Philipos of Southern Omo, faculty and students of the institution, as well as a delegation from Russia consisting of: Secretary of the DECR for Inter-Christian Relations Hieromonk Stefan (Igumnov), Abbess Elizabeth (Pozdnyakova) of the Martha and Mary Convent of Mercy in Moscow, Deputy Chairman of the Department for Church Relations with Society and the Media V.V. Kipshidze, co-chairs of the International Organization "Union of Orthodox Women" N.V. Dmitrieva and E.A. Sipagina, DECR staff member D.E. Arakelyan, and representatives of the autonomous non-profit organization "Russian Seasons."

On September 27, the feast of the Exaltation of the Honorable and Life-Giving Cross of the Lord, the choir held a festive concert at the Russian Center for Science and Culture ("Russian House") in Addis Ababa. Spiritual hymns, folk pieces, and songs by Russian authors were performed. The concert was attended by: Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia E.E. Terekhin; accredited ambassadors from several countries in Ethiopia; advisor to the Russian Embassy and head of the RCSC in Ethiopia A.A. Evstigneev; a delegation from Russia; staff of diplomatic missions; numerous compatriots and believers of the Ethiopian Church.

The visit of the United Choir of the Holy Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius and the Moscow Theological Academy to Ethiopia and the concerts were made possible with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation as part of the events of the Days of Spiritual Culture of Russia in this country.
