Schismatic group’s activists seize UOC church in Kalyta village
DECR Communication Service, 20/09/2024
The OCU supporters seized the Church of St. Nicholas of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Kalyta village, Kyiv region, Ukraine.
The schismatics have celebrated the first “divine service” in the seized church, reports the Union of Orthodox Journalists citing Tribuna Brovary.
The seizure was instigated by activist Pavlo Dubovyi. According to the UOJ’s sources, unidentified persons in military uniform and balaclavas had approached the church building, cut the locks off its doors and replaced them with their own. The attackers claimed that as far back as April 6, 2024, they had “transferred” the church to the OCU jurisdiction, but could only enter the church six months later “after receiving state registration and all the documents.”
However, according to the UOJ’s source, they showed no documents that would confirm legitimacy of their actions.
As the UOJ reported, yet another UOC church was seized – the OCU raiders put their own locks on the door of the Church of the Holy Martyr John the Soldier.
