Albanian Orthodox Church calls for cancellation of the law banning the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
“The law no.8371 recently adopted by the Supreme Rada is clearly aimed at the abolition of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church. In this way millions of Ukrainian Orthodox faithful, numerous bishops, priests, monks and nuns under the leadership of metropolitan Onuphrius, who are all members of the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church, are to be persecuted,” according to an official statement by the Albanian Orthodox Church.
Persecution, incarceration in prison, the defilement of holy sites, the seizure of the property of churches and monasteries are “harsh acts which become ever more terrible when they are imposed by the law-enforcement agencies of democratic countries,” the document emphasizes.
“As Saint Peter states, ‘If one member suffers, all suffer together with it’ (1 Cor. 12.26), as a token of solidarity with our persecuted brothers, we pray ardently for the cessation of bloody conflict which brings pain to all of the Ukrainian people without exception, and for the abolition of this absurd law, for peace and for the unity of Orthodoxy so that it may bear witness to the world,” the statement of the Albanian Orthodox Church says.
