Head of Russian Ecclesiastical Mission takes part in Patriarchal Liturgy on Mount Tabor

On 19th August, Feast of the Transfiguration of our Lord Jesus Christ, the head of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem, Archimandrite Vassian (Zmeyev), took part in the night Liturgy at the Holy Transfiguration Monastery of the Orthodox Church of Jerusalem on Mount Tabor.
His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos III of the Holy City of Jerusalem and All Palestine officiated at the divine service. Concelebrating with His Beatitude was Metropolitan Isychios of Kapitolias, Patriarchal Commissioner, along with Archimandrite Vassian (Zmeyev), clergymen of the Patriarchate of Jerusalem, Arabic-speaking clergy of the Holy Land, ordained pilgrims from Romania, Russia and Serbia, and clerics of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission – Hieromonk Pyotr (Borodulin) and Deacon Makary Petukhov, the Mission’s website reports.
Among those praying at the Divine Liturgy were Metropolitan Kyriakos of Nazareth (Patriarchate of Jerusalem), members of the Orthodox Arab communities in the Holy Land, sisters of the Gorny Convent and pilgrims from Romania, Russia, Serbia, Ukraine and other countries.
Liturgical hymns were sung in Greek and Arabic. The Holy Scripture, some of the prayers and litanies were read out in the Church Slavonic, Romanian and Serbian languages.
The communion of the clergy was followed by a festal homily delivered by Patriarch Theophilos. Its Russian translation was read out by Archimandrite Vassian.
After the Liturgy, His Beatitude blessed grapes of this year’s harvest.
On the feast day, the Divine Liturgy in the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Jerusalem was celebrated by Hieromonk Matfei (Kozlov), cleric of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission, sacristan of St. John the Baptist Metochion at the Site of our Lord’s Baptism in Jordan. After the Liturgy, Father Matfei blessed fruits of the new harvest and addressed the parishioners with a sermon.
