Assisted by police, OCU activists seize a church in Rudnia village, Kyiv region
DECR Communication Service, 17/07/2024
On July 11th, the OCU activists with the assistance of police seized the Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos in Rudnia village, Kyiv region, Ukraine, Dozor_kozak1 Telegram channel reports.
While the local religious community of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church had expressed no desire to change the church’s jurisdiction, certain individuals, not affiliated with the parish, held a meeting in April 2024, claiming that they acted on behalf of the parishioners, and “transferred” the church into the OCU jurisdiction. A week prior to that, the actual religious community had held its meeting, confirming the intention to remain within the UOC. Six hundred signatures had been collected in favour of that decision, the Union of Orthodox Journalists reports.
