On the Eve of the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow, Orthodox Believers in Iceland Honored the Memory of Those Who Died During the Great Patriotic War
On June 21st, on the eve of the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow, a memorial event was held at the military memorial section of the Fossvogur Cemetery in Reykjavík to mark the 83rd anniversary of Nazi Germany's attack on the USSR, reports the website of the Russian Orthodox Church in Iceland.
Employees of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Iceland, representatives of compatriot organizations, and local residents laid wreaths and flowers at the "Hope" memorial in memory of the sailors who participated in the Arctic Convoys, as well as at the graves of Great Patriotic War veteran M.A. Mitrofanova and Soviet sailor A. Maley, who died in the Icelandic capital in 1942.
The rector of the St. Nicholas Stavropegial Parish of the Russian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate in Reykjavík, Archpriest Timofey Zolotusky, performed a memorial litany for the soldiers who laid down their lives for their faith, Fatherland, and people, and for all those who died during the Great Patriotic War.
The commemoration of all those who died during the war continued during the memorial services on June 22, on the day of the Trinity Parental Saturday.
On the same day, compatriots living in Iceland honored the memory of the veterans by joining the international action "Candle of Remembrance."
