Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations visits Kykkos Monastery

On May 20, Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, chairman of Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations (DECR), accompanied by his deputy, archpriest Igor Yakimchuk; archpriest Pavel Povalyaev, rector of the St. Nicholas parish in Limassol; and Rev. Nikolai Vasin, secretary of the DECR chairman, visited the stauropegic Kykkos monastery in Cyprus.
Metropolitan Anthony and his suite celebrated a prayer service before the miraculous Kykkos Icon of the Mother of God, the main shrine of the monastery, and venerated the numerous relics of the saints of God that rest in the abode.
Pilgrims from the Russian Orthodox Church had a tour of the monastery’s museum. Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk signed the distinguished visitors’ book.
Afterwards, the DECR chairman and his suite visited the tomb of His Beatitude Archbishop Macarios III, the first President of the Republic of Cyprus, and offered up a requiem prayer. Also, they visited the chapel built over the tomb on the top of Throni hill in the Troodos mountains.
