Russian President presents an icon to the Church of the Intercession in Harbin
DECR Communication Service, 17/05/2024
On 17th May 2024, during his visit to the People’s Republic of China, President of the Russian Federation Mr Vladimir Putin visited the Church of the Intercession of the Most Holy Mother of God in Harbin, built in 1930.
Nowadays, this is the only functioning Orthodox church in the city, where divine services are celebrated on a regular basis. The parish rector, Rev. Alexander Yu Shi, is a graduate of the St. Petersburg Theological Academy. In May 2013, the Liturgy in the church was celebrated by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia.
The President of Russia was shown around the church, venerated its shrines and lit candles before the icons.
As a memorable gift, Mr Vladimir Putin presented to the parish an icon of the Saviour “Image Not-Made-by-Hands.”
