Russian priest takes part in the conference of compatriots from Europe and North America

On April 20, 2024, Rev. Georgy Sergeyev, responsible for pastoral care of the Moscow Patriarchate’s faithful in the Republic of Turkey, took part in the 17th
Regional Conference of Russian compatriots from Europe and North America on “Preservation of Russian traditional spiritual and moral values in Europe and North America,” being held at Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Istanbul.
Greetings from Mr. Mikhail Yu. Galuzin, Deputy Minister of Foreign Relations, were read out by Mr. Bashirov from the Ministry’s Department for Work with Compatriots Abroad. Among those attending the conference were also Mr. Vladimir Poletayev, First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State Building; Mr. Andrei V. Buravov, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Istanbul; Mr. Dmitry V. Polikanov, Deputy Head of the Federal Agency for CIS Affairs, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation; Mr. Mikhail V. Drozdov, Chairman of the World Coordination Council of Russian Compatriots; Mr. Alexander A. Sotnichenko, Head of the Russian House in Ankara; and heads of regional organizations of Russian compatriots from Europe and North America.
Rev. Georgy Sergeyev addressed the participants, saying that the Moscow Patriarchate parishes abroad are centers at which compatriots can feel as nowhere else their ties with the Motherland. He underscored the need of consolidating compatriots through preserving their religious, national and cultural identity in far-abroad countries. At the end of his address, he spoke about the work of the communities of the Russian Orthodox Church in the Republic of Turkey done for maintaining the system of Russian traditional spiritual and moral values that to a greater extent have been formed by Russian Orthodoxy.
