His Holiness Patriarch Kirill's condolences in connection with the murder of the monks of the Ziquala Abo Monastery in Ethiopia

His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus' expressed his condolences to His Holiness Patriarch Abune Mathias of Ethiopia in connection with the murder of the monks of the monastery of St Abo the Great in the village of Ziquala in Ethiopia.

The message reads as follows:

Your Holiness,

Beloved Brother in Christ,

My heart was grieved as I learned about the brutal murder of monks of the ancient Ziquala Abo Monastery.

On behalf of the Russian Orthodox Church I express my heartfelt sympathy to Your Holiness and the brethren of the monastery. I hope that the local authorities will take necessary measures to bring to justice those who committed that dreadful atrocity.

May the Father of mercies and God of all comfort (2 Cor 1:3) receive with love the souls of the deceased and grant strength to all those who are mourning for them.
