DECR Communication Service, 15.09.2023.
On September 14, the Northern Commercial Court of Appeals of the city of Kiev affirmed the decision to vacate the plot of land on the territory of the National Museum of the History of Ukraine by dismantling the Church of the Tithes located there. The news was announced by the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy, the Information and Education Department of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church reports.
The demolition must be done at the expense of the religious community of the Church of the Tithes. The decision was taken after considering a petition of appeal filed by the community against the ruling of the Commercial Court of the city of Kiev dated 15 February 2023.
“Pravoslavnaya Zhizn” (Orthodox Life) website notes that the church was built by the residents of Kiev in 2006 with the blessing of His Beatitude Metropolitan Vladimir of Kiev and All Ukraine on the site where the Church of the Tithes, the first stone church in Kievan Rus’, had been located. Since 2020, the National Museum of the History of Ukraine has been working towards the demolition of the Church of Ss Vladimir and Olga, calling it an ‘unauthorized object.’
