Pilgrim children’s camp is organized in Turkey with support of Russian Orthodox Church
DECR Communication Service, 25.08.2023.
On August 15-25, 2023, the children’s camp called ‘Pilgrim,’ organized by the Solzhenitsyn Association of the Russian Language and Culture Study with the support of the Russian Orthodox Church, was held for the third time near the city of Jalova located on the coast of the Sea of Marmara in Turkey.
This year more than sixty boys and girls took part in the project.
They studied the Russian language and culture, fundamentals of the Orthodox faith, learned to render first aid, were engaged in fitness exercises, archery and orienteering, and participated in short walking tours. In a theatre workshop traditionally set up in the camp, children learnt basics of the art of public speaking and acting technique.
Among those who had stayed in the camp were children of compatriots living in Turkey as well as children from Turkish families.
On August 25, Rev. Georgy Sergeyev, who is responsible for taking pastoral care of the Moscow Patriarchate faithful in the Republic of Turkey, celebrated the Divine Liturgy at ‘Pilgrim.’ After the service, he talked with children and answered their questions.
At the closing ceremony, Fr. Georgy and Mr. Andrei Ponomarev, head of the Russian Society in Izmir, presented each child with a participation certificate and an album with drawings on the Gospel topics made by the winners of the ‘Paschal Miracle’ contest during ten years.
