OCU raiders seize the church of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Netishyn
DECR Communication Service, 29.07.2023.
On July 27, the supporters of schismatics assisted by the police seized St. Paraskeva’s church in the city of Netishyn, Khmelnitsky region, Ukraine. Archpriest Roman Tyshkun, rector of St. Paraskeva’s church, told about the incident on social media.
The OCU supporters began raiding the church after the evening service on the eve of the commemoration day of St. Prince Vladimir, Equal-to-the-Apostles. “After the All-Night Vigil, most of the parishioners went home suspecting nothing. Only a few people and I remained, and all of a sudden the activists appeared,” Fr.Roman said.
During the raid, some fifty men threw the Orthodox faithful out of the church. The seizure was supported by the police.
The Union of Orthodox Journalists reports that the OCU supporters illegally reregistered the religious community of St. Paraskeva’s church basing it on the decision taken at the meeting of the territorial community on April 9. The Orthodox faithful say that the same people bearing no relation to the UOC religious community voted for the transfer of St. Paraskeva’s church and of the Cathedral of the “Burning Bush” icon of the Mother of God to the OCU jurisdiction. The Cathedral was seized on July 9.
On April 7, deputies of the Netishyn city council decided to ban the activities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and deprive St. Paraskeva’s church and the Cathedral of the “Burning Bush” icon of the Mother of God of the plots of land on which they are located.
