His Holiness Patriarch Kirill addresses Primates of Local Churches in view of new attempts to confiscate the Kiev Pechersk Lavra
His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia has sent letters to the Primates of the Local Orthodox Churches informing them about new attempts to confiscate the Kiev Pechersk Lavra from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and other facts of persecuting the faithful of the canonical Church in Ukraine, the Patriarchal Press Service reports.
“In addition to my letter of March 11, 2023, about a threat of the confiscation of the Kiev Pechersk Lavra from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, I brotherly forward to you information about new attempts to confiscate the Lavra and other major monasteries of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, as well as information about a discriminatory law adopted against it, lawless actions of the Ukrainian special services, security agencies and local authorities, continued captures of churches, cases of aggression and violence towards the faithful of the canonical Church and the reaction to this of international human rights organizations”, His Holiness wrote.
His Holiness asked the Primates of Local Churches to lift up fervent prayers for the suffering Ukrainian Orthodox Church and expressed a hope “for the all possible support at a time so difficult for the Orthodox people of Ukraine”.
