Russia-China Friendship Festival to be held at Chinese Patriarchal Metochion

On June 23, the Russian Orthodox Church commemorates the Hieromartyr Metrophanes of Beijing and other Chinese martyrs who suffered with him in 1900.
The Russia-China Friendship Festival dedicated to the commemoration day will be held at the Patriarchal Metochion – the Church of St. Nicholas in Golutvino district of Moscow on June 25. The first festival took place in 2022 with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’.
The festival program includes a gala concert of music pieces, songs and dances performed by the Russians and Chinese, a master class in calligraphy and Chinese pictorial art, Chinese specialty market and tea ceremony, Chinese gymnastics, traditional board and table games, Russian and Chinese cuisine.
Lectures will be delivered at the church building. Ms Lyubov Afonina, Candidate of History, a research scientist of the Institute of China and Modern Asia and of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences will present her book “The Boxer Rebellion and the Orthodox Martyrs in China” and a lecture on the same topic. She will be joined by sinologists and experts in Chinese culture and language who will speak about the ancient Chinese traditional bells, the Chinese language learning at the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission, and discuss whether artificial intelligence can replace human interpreters and how to tell the Chinese about Orthodoxy.
The participants studying the Chinese language will have an opportunity to attend a conversation club and discuss particular features of the Orthodox tradition and of the traditional Chinese holidays and festivals.
