Delegation of the Russian Church meets with leaders of the World Council of Churches

On June the 21^st, the first day of the WCC Central Committee meeting, Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate Department for External Church Relations, met with leaders of the World Council of Churches. Participating in the meeting were also members of the delegation including Archimandrite Philaret (Bulekov), DECR vice-chairman, and Archpriest Mikhail Gundyaev, representative of the Moscow Patriarchate to the WCC. The World Council of Churches was represented by secretary general Dr Jerry Pillay; moderator of the WCC CC Bishop Heinrich Bedford-Strohm; head of the WCC Commission of the Churches on International Affairs Mr. Peter Prove; and executive secretary of the WCC programs on ‘Inter-Christian Relations’ and ‘Faith and Order’ Dr Vasile-Octavian Mihoc.

Metropolitan Anthony conveyed to the WCC leaders cordial greetings from His Holiness Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, on the occasion of the Council’s 75^th anniversary celebrated these days. As a keepsake of the event, His Eminence conveyed a gift from His Holiness the Patriarch - an icon of the Saviour and a congratulatory letter.

This was followed by a prolonged conversation on a wide range of issued on the WCC agenda.
