Another church of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church seized in the Rivne region of Ukraine
"OCU" activists have seized the Peter and Paul Church in the village of Chorov in the Rivne region, the Union of Orthodox Journalists reports with reference to the press service of the Rivne diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
On the morning of June 6, raiders entered the territory of the church, pushed the parishioners behind the fence, closed the gates and broke down the door of the church. The storm troopers were guarded by police. A "commission" consisting of members of the "OCU" community entered the church. Neither believers of the canonical Church nor representatives of the authorities were included in the "commission".
According to the head of the legal department of the Rivne diocese, Archpriest Vasyl Nachiv, the community of the church collected photo and video evidence of the seizure of the shrine and will appeal to court.
The community of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Khorovo has been defending its church for more than a year. In May 2022, at a meeting of the villagers, an illegal decision was made to "transfer" the parish to a schismatic structure, and on this basis, the Rivne regional administration re-registered the community. The church was sealed up for the duration of the trial. In September, the Ostrozha district court found the congregation of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church to be the aggrieved party.
Since June of last year, supporters of the "OCU" periodically attempted to seize the church by force, due to which the parishioners established a round-the-clock watch near the building.
