DECR Communication Service, 08.05.2023.
On May 8, on the eve of the Victory Day, the service for all the Russian soldiers killed from the beginning of time was held by the dean of the Sofia Representation of the Russian Orthodox Church, Archimandrite Vassian (Zmeyev) at the St. Panteleimon Monastery of the Macedonian Orthodox Church - the Archbishopric of Ohrid at Nerezi near the city of Skopje, North Macedonia.
The monastery was built by Emperor Alexios Komnenos in the beginning of the 12th century. It is known, among other things, for its outstanding frescoes of the Byzantine period.
Archimandrite Vassian was assisted by clergy of the Macedonian Orthodox Church - the Archbishopric of Ohrid - Hieromonk Afanasije and Hieromonk Agafon.
Present at the memorial service were S. A. Bazdnikin, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of North Macedonia, embassy staff members and parishioners of the Sofia Representation church who are on a pilgrimage to the holy places of the Macedonian Orthodox Church.
As the Sofia Representation of the Russian Orthodox Church reports, after the service, Archimandrite Vassian addressed the worshippers pointing out to the significance of the feats of arms performed by Russian warriors and called to preserve the prayerful memory of them.
