In Khelmnytskyi schismatics seize the Church of Our Lady of Kazan.
DECR Communication service, 15.04.2023.
On 13th April in the microregion Hrichany of the city of Khelmnytskyi, supporters of the uncanonical so-called Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) seized the Church of Our Lady of Kazan, which is under the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, reports the Union of Orthodox Journalists.
It was the head of the culture and tourism department of the Khmelnytskyi city council A. Romasyuk and local deputy V. Pidgaichuk who encouraged the seizure of the church building. People who bore no relation to the church community gathered by the church, broke down the door and seized the building.
The day before, the opponents of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church held a gathering which voted for the transfer of the parish to the ‘OCU’. Participating in the vote were people who lived at the other end of the city, as well as parishioners of the ‘OCU’.
“All of the city’s inhabitants, and especially those who live in the Hrichany microregion, known that the rector of the church Father Pyotr Dyachuk built the church and cared for it, as evinced by the many efforts he put into it,” the diocese remarked. “People who never attended worship there did not take any part in the making the church look beautiful, but nonetheless they turned up and claimed the church property as their own.”
The rector Father Pyotr Dyachuk and the parish community have gone to the police and the Khmelnytskyi regional state administration with their case.
