Metropolitan Joanikije of Montenegro and the Littoral calls the persecution of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church a state terror
DECR Communication Service, 14.04.2023.
"We observe with great concern how the Ukrainian authorities are taking away the ancient and famous shrines of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in favour of a schismatic and non-canonical group of dubious religious affiliation," Metropolitan Joanikije of Montenegro and the Littoral (Serbian Orthodox Church) stressed in his Paschal message. Vladyka sees in these actions "not only a violation of religious rights and freedoms, but, unfortunately, a state terror" and an attempt "to suppress authtentic Orthodoxy in Ukraine".
"Seeing how this crucified Church, beginning with her head, archpastors, clergy, monks and faithful men, calmly and courageously endures insults, incursions, robberies and plundering of churches, standing on the Calvary road of Christ, we are convinced that the Lord will pour out His mercy on her, that she will emerge before the whole world strengthened by thousands of new confessors and martyrs after the cruel sufferings and persecutions," stated the the head of the Metropolitan Church of Montenegro and the Littoral
