Primate of the Polish Orthodox Church supports Kiev Theological Schools
DECR Communication Service, 31.03.2023.
On the 31st of March 2023, His Beatitude, Metropolitan Sawa of Warsaw and All Poland, sent a letter to the Rector of the Kiev Theological Academy and Seminary, Archbishop Silvestr of Bilhorod, in which he expressed support for Lavra and the Kiev Theological Schools, which are experiencing persecution by the Ukrainian authorities.
"The Polish Orthodox Church has always stood and continues to stand for the canonicity of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church," Metropolitan Sawa said in a letter.
"What is happening today with the Kiev Pechersk Lavra, other monastic centres, churches and your Academy is an expression of great enslavement and persecution of the Church," the head of the Polish Church testified.
"We deplore, offer our prayers and join with all those who offer prayers and endure persecution. Jesus Christ said If they persecuted Me, they will persecute you also. (John 15.20), but remember: I have overcome the world (John 16.33). We are spiritually united with the monks of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra and all those who suffer, deeply believing that Christ's "sun will shine also in your window," - wrote Metropolitan Sawa on behalf of the Polish Orthodox Church, whose words are quoted by Orthodox Union of Journalists.
