Greek Center of Patristic Studies comes out in support of monks of Kiev Lavra of the Caves
DECR Communication Service, 29.03.2023.
On March 28, the Center of Patristic Sturdies in Greece published a document expressing support for the monks of the Kiev Lavra of the Caves, reports the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Information-Educations Department with reference to Romfea church news agency.
‘With great human sorrow but also with hope for the eternal presence of the Lord, we have monitored the latest events with regard the declared persecution of the monks of the Kiev Lavra of the Caves, which is Ukraine’s Holy Mount in which the relics rest of holy Ukrainian fathers who have always sanctified this place by their life and prayer’, the document reads.
It is also stressed that ‘it is ‘the sacred task of monks to pray incessantly for universal peace and individual and general sanctity’, while ‘those who impede this sacred task oppose the Church and Triune God Himself’.
The Greek theological center calls upon Local Churches to side with the brethren of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church: ‘As Greek Orthodox Christians and brothers in Christ of those who are persecuted, with heavy hearts we protest against the attacks on the Lavra monks and ask the Church of Greece and the rest of Local Orthodox Church to take in everything the side of the aggrieved monks’.
