On 29th January the bishop of Argentina and South America Leonid, at the invitation of the bishop of Buenos Aires and South and Central America Cyril of the Serbian Orthodox Church, visited the monastery of Saint Sava in Buenos Aires.
The bishops celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the Church of Saint Sava. At the festive liturgy on the occasion of the patronal feast day of the church, concelebrating with bishop Leonid and bishop Cyril were the clergy of the dioceses of the Moscow and Serbian Patriarchates.
Before the Divine Liturgy the two bishops consecrated the internal décor of the church and the monastery buildings after repairs had been carried out.
Bishop Cyril also elevated to the rank of abbess the elder sister of the Saint Sava convent the nun Maria.
Worship was conducted in Church Slavonic, Serbian and Spanish.
After the Prayer from beyond the Ambo, according to Serbian tradition, hymns were sung in honour of the feast day, reports the site of the Argentinian diocese.
After the dismissal at the Liturgy bishop Cyril warmly welcomed all of those present, congratulated the parishioners and guests on the occasion of the patronal feast and thanked all those for their joint prayer. For his part bishop Leonid thanked bishop Cyril for the invitation to share the joy of the feast, for his brotherly love and care, and noted that Saint Sava of Serbia was widely venerated in Russia and other Slavic countries. His Vita was often encountered in Old Russian manuscripts beginning from the end of the fourteenth century.
The festive service was attended by the acting ambassador of Serbia to Argentina, people from the Serbian community and numerous other guests. The fraternal conversations continued at the festive meal afterwards.
