Condolences of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill on the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
His Majesty King CHARLES III
Your Majesty,
It is with sadness that have learnt about the demise of your mother Queen Elizabeth II, I express sincere compassion to you and all the subjects of the British Crown who are grieving their loss.
The period of your deceased parent’s rule was the longest in the history of the Kingdom. It was an epoch of dynamic development of the national, economic, social and other spheres of the country’s life. Through all this time Her Majesty remained a symbol of stability, continuity and immunity of the ages-long historical traditions not only for her Motherland but also for the entire European continent. Political leaders and heads of world powers treated her with enormous respect. I remember with great warmth her visit to Russia in 1994, which made the best impressions on me.
I had occasion to meet the deceased Queen personally and to have a talk with her during my visit to Great Britain. I attest that she was a very open, sociable, very sensitive interlocutor, a person who was a model of profound intellectuality and highest culture.
May the Merciful Lord and our God Jesus Christ accept with love the soul of the deceased Queen Elizabeth, give consolation to all those who are grieving her death, give you strength and grant you His help in your forthcoming service.
With sincere condolences,
Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia
Patriarch
