Representative of the Russian Church takes part in the feast of the Dormition church in Bulgarian Kyustendil

On August 15, the Bulgarian Orthodox Church celebrates the Dormition of the Theotokos according to the revised Julian calendar. Archimandrite Vassian (Zmeyev), representative of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus’ to the Patriarch of Bulgaria was invited to take part in the celebration of the dedication day at the Dormition of the Theotokos church in Kyustendil by Archimandrite Isaac (Bojadziski), dean of the Kyunstendil church district.

The Divine Liturgy was celebrated by Bishop Polycarp of Belogradchik, a vicar of the Sofia bishopric. Assisting were Archimandrite Vasily (Savov), protosyngel of the Sofia bishopric, Archimandrite Vassian (Zmeyev), Archimandrite Evfimy (Koinov), Archimandrite Isaac (Bojadziski), and clerics of the Sofia bishopric.

Attending the service were Boyko Borisov, leader of the GERB (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria) political party; regional governor Alexander Pandurski; Mayor of Kyustendil Peter Paunov; and his deputy Rosica Plachkova.

Before the Divine Liturgy, Bishop Polycarp celebrated an office of the renovation of the church which has been restored and repaired with government support.

The website of the Russian Orthodox Church Representation in Sofia reports that after the Liturgy Bishop Polycarp and the clergymen celebrated the holy water prayer service at the central city square, and the Bishop congratulated the Kyustendil residents on the patronal feast of the Dormition church.
