Patriarch of Serbia expresses condolences upon the death of filmmaker Alexander Melnik and Russian Emergency Situations Minister Evgeny Zinichev
His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia sent a message to His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia expressing condolences upon the deaths of Russian filmmaker and scriptwriter Alexander Melnik and Russian Minister of Civil Defence, Emergency Situations and Liquidation of Consequences of Natural Disasters, Evgeny Zinichev. According to mass media reports, on September 8, 2021, they died accidental deaths at the Great Irkinda Waterfall 120 km away fr om Norilsk.
The message reads:
Your Holiness, our dear Brother and Concelebrant in Christ,
We have been deeply saddened by the news about an accident in which the first to lose his life was the servant of God Alexander Melnik, a great friend and benefactor of the Serbian people, and then, in a heroic feat of brotherly love, and then the servant of God Evgeny Zinichev, an ardent patriot with a noble heart.
We pray to the Lord that their souls may settle down in heavenly dwellings wh ere the righteous find rest, while you just as members of their families may be consoled by the memory of their glorious deeds as inspiring examples of the gospel’s love of humanity.
