DECR chairman meets with Ambassador of Chile to Russia
Department for External Church Relations, met with H.E. Eduardo Escobar, Ambassador Extraordinary
and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Chile to the Russian Federation.
Taking part in the meeting held at the DECR premises was Archpriest Sergy Zvonarev, secretary for the
affairs of the far-abroad.
Metropolitan Hilarion warmly welcomed the guest at the Synodal department and shared with him
reminiscences of his visits to Chile.
The Chilean Ambassador told the archpastor about his service as a diplomat in different countries.
At the request of the guest, Metropolitan Hilarion related the history of the Department for External
Church Relations established seventy-five years ago and recounted the development of relations of the
Russian Orthodox Church with the Local Orthodox Churches, with other Christian Churches, including
the Roman Catholic Church, and with different religious organizations.
Metropolitan Hilarion also told the guest about the life of the Russian Orthodox Church in the Soviet
state, the revival of churches and monasteries after decades of persecution, also of the Cathedral of Christ
the Saviour, the development of church life at present and involvement of the youth, as well as about
In conclusion of the meeting, the DECR chairman wished the guest success in his diplomatic career and
gifted him a memorable souvenir.
