A children’s camp organized in Turkey with support of Russian Orthodox Church
From August 15 to 29, 2021, a children’s camp called ‘Pilgrim’ was organized near Ephesus, Turkey, by the Solzhenitsyn Association for Studying Russian Language and Culture with the support of the Russian Orthodox Church and the Russian House in Ankara.
Children studied the Russian language and culture, basics of the Orthodox faith, were engaged in fitness exercises, archery and orienteering and participated in walking tours. In a theatre studio, children learnt rhetorical skills and acting technique.
Over 60 boys and girls participated in the project. Among them were children not only from Russian but also Turkish families.
On August 26, Rev. George Sergeev, responsible for pastoral care for the faithful of the Moscow Patriarchate in Turkey, celebrated the Divine Liturgy in ‘Pilgrim’. After the service, the priest had a talk with children and answered their questions.
During the solemn closure of the camp, the head of the Russian House in Ankara, Alexander Sotnichenko, presented each child with the participation certificate and a book in the Russian language.
