Metropolitan Hilarion meets with first deputy head of the Muslim Board of the Russian Federation

On August 2, 2021, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, met with the first vice-chairman of the Muslim Board of the Russian Federation, Damir Mukhetdinov, at the DECR.

The meeting was also attended by Rev. Dimitry Safonov, DECR secretary for interreligious relations, and R. Kh. Seifetdinov, MB vice-chairman for internal affairs.

In the beginning of the meeting, Damir Mukhetdinov presented the recent monographs and periodicals prepared with his participation. The sides discussed further prospects for cooperation between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Muslim Board of the Russian Federation, especially cooperation in developing theological education in the country. They also discussed various aspects of the work of the Interreligious Council in Russia and dealt with the problem of defending traditional family values.

The sides also touched upon the preparation of the World Inter-Cultural and Interreligious Dialogue Conference to take place in May 2022 in Sankt-Petersburg on the initiative of the Inter Parliamentary Union in Partnership with the UN.
