In Volyn a church community hit by raiders finds a new church
On July 7, 2021, Archbishop Nafanail of Volyn and Lutsk blessed the church dedicated to the Icon of the Mother of God “Swift to Hearken” at the village of Bronitsa, Volyn region, Ukraine.
In 2019, the community of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church in this settlement suffered from a raiding attack of supporter of the schismatic “OCU”. They broke the locks on the church door and pushed out the rector from the church territory. The faithful of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church continued to assemble for worship first in a village lodge and later in a temporary church and in November 2020 began building a fundamental church edifice.
After the blessing of the church, Archbishop Nafanail presided over the Divine Liturgy celebrated in the new church, reports the Union of Orthodox Journalists with reference to the website of the Diocese of Volyn. The archpastor, clergy and faithful prayed for peace in Ukraine and unity of the world Orthodoxy and for the end of the pandemic.
With a blessing of His Beatitude Onufry, Metropolitan of Kiev and All Ukraine, during the Lesser Entrance, Archbishop Nafanail granted the rector of the church in Bronitsa, Rev. Nazary Prijmak, the right to wear a decorated cross.
After the liturgy, His Eminence Nafanail presented active parishioners with church awards and wished the faithful a happy feast of the Nativity of St. John the Precursor.
