Metropolitan Vladimir of Vladimir-Volynsky and Kovel, a hierarch of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, was a guest at the celebration.
The Church of the Annunciation was founded in the early 16 th century. In 1944, it was blown up by the retreating German army. The war being over, the Orthodox monks were hunted from the abode. The revival of the monastery began when His Beatitude Metropolitan Sawa was leading the Diocese of Białystok and Gdansk. The decision to restore the Church of the Annunciation was taken in 1984, and on June 4, Archbishop Sawa laid the foundation stone. The restoration was completed in 2021.
The Primate of the Orthodox Church of Poland noted that everyone has been looking forward to the consecration of the main church of the Supraśl monastery for a very long time and called consecration a historic event.
After the service, greetings from the President of Poland Andrzej Duda were read out. He noted the importance and symbolism of the event calling it an evidence of spiritual revival and growth of the Orthodox Church of Poland.
