The chancellor of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church meets with the metropolitan of Beirut Elias.
On 17th June 2021 a meeting took place between the chancellor of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church the metropolitan of Boryspil and Brovary Anthony and the metropolitan of Beirut Elias at the latter’s residence in Achrafieh.
Metropolitan Anthony conveyed to the hierarch of the Antiochian Orthodox Church greetings from the Most Blessed Metropolitan of Kiev and All Ukraine Onuphrius.
The meeting was attended by the dean of the Representation Church of the Russian Orthodox Church in Beirut archimandrite Philipp (Vasiltsev), the deputy chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church archpriest Nikolai Danilevich and members of the official delegation of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
The chancellor of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church handed to metropolitan Elias the remainder of donations collected by the dioceses of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church for the restoration of church buildings in the Beirut metropolitanate that had been damaged as a result of an explosion in the sea port of the Lebanese capital on 4th August 2020. As metropolitan Anthony noted, although Ukraine at present is undergoing an economic crisis which has affected many peoples’ material well-being, the faithful of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church took this tragedy to their hearts and responded to the appeal of the synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church to collect donations.
Metropolitan Anthony also spoke of the current situation affecting the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
Metropolitan Elias warmly greeted the guests and expressed his profound gratitude for the help given to the Beirut metropolitanate.
On the same day the delegation of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church visited the Church of the Great Martyr St. George in Aсhrafieh and the Cathedral of St. George in Beirut.
