UOC Chancellor meets with Patriarch John X of Antioch
On June 16, 2021, with a blessing of His Beatitude Onufry, Metropolitan of Kiev and All Ukraine, Metropolitan Anthony of Borispol and Brovary, who is on a visit to the Orthodox Church of Antioch, met with His Beatitude John X, Patriarch of Antioch and All the East.
The meeting took pace at the Patriarchal residence in Damascus, Syria. Metropolitan Anthony was accompanied by the deputy head of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, Archpriest Nikolay Danilevich. Present at the meeting were also hierarchs of the Church of Antioch – Bishop Moses of Darrya, Bishop Yohann of Sergiopolis, Bishop Ephrem of Seleucia, as well as staff members of the Patriarchate.
Metropolitan Anthony thanked Patriarch John for giving a blessing for his visit to the Church of Great Antioch in which Christ’s disciples were names Christians for the first time (Acts 11:26) and conveyed best regards from His Beatitude Onufry, Metropolitan of Kiev and All Ukraine. He reported that he came to the Church of Antioch to hand over the last part of the donations collected by dioceses of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church by the Holy Synod decision of August 17, 2020 on the restoration of churches in the Metropolis of Beirut affected by the blast in the Lebanese capital city on August 4, 2020.
Patriarch John asked Metropolitan Anthony to convey warm words of gratitude to the plenitude of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church for the raised funds. According to His Beatitude, the people of the Church of Antioch were moved by the empathy and effective help they felt coming from the Ukrainian Orthodox people – it was an expression of fraternal love and manifestation of the unity of brothers in Christ.
They also considered the situation in the world and the Ukrainian Orthodoxy and discussed ways of developing cooperation between the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the Orthodox Church of Antioch.
