Events to mark the anniversary of the end of the Anglo-Boer War were held at the Parish of St. Sergius in South Africa

In 1902, a peace treaty was signed to put an end to the long-lasting Boer War. On May 31, 2021, another anniversary of the end of this first large-scale war of the 20^th century was marked at the Chapel of Holy Prince Vladimir Equal-to-the-Apostle in the territory of the church of St. Sergius in South Africa to commemorate the Russians who were killed in that armed conflict.

The events were initiated by Mr. Freddie Peters, head of the Afrikaans Cultural Council of the Klipriver district. On that day, Afrikaans, who still remember the support given by Russian volunteers, doctors and nurses, expressed a wish to honour their memory by laying wraths in the Russian church.

The event was attended by Russia’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to South Africa, Mr I. Rogachev.

The rector of the Parish of St. Sergius of Radonezh, Archpriest Daniil Lugovoy, held the lity for the repose of the souls of the fallen and sang ‘Eternal Memory’ to all the Orthodox soldiers who gave their lives in South Africa.

Then the members of the Afrikaans Cultural Council laid wreaths at the memorial plague with names of fallen Russian volunteers.
