Two more Serbian Orthodox churches in Kosovo attacked
As the local police reported, unidentified persons broke into the Church of the Forty Martyrs of Sebaste in the village of Drajkovce and stole money, and entrance doors of the Church of St. Demetrios got broken in Donja Bitinja.
It is already the fourth case this year, when church buildings of the Serbian Orthodox Church in the territory of Kosovo and Metohija become targets of vandals’ attack. On the Saturday of the Commemoration of the Dead, churches in Klokot and Parteš were robbed.
“These attacks continue the negative practice of jeopardizing religious freedom and property belonging to the Serbian Orthodox Church in Kosovo and Metohija,” a special statement of the Serbian Government’s Office for Kosovo and Metohija says.
Causing particular concern is the rise in the number of such incidents on the eve of the notorious anniversary of the pogrom of March 17, 2004, as the result of which over thirty-five Orthodox churches and monasteries all over Kosovo and Metohija suffered damage.
