Russian Orthodox Church Biblical-Theological Commission meets for a plenary session at the Department for External Church Relations

The Synodal Biblical-Theological Commission of the Russian Orthodox Church met for a plenary session on December 8 at the DECR conference hall.
The session, which was chaired by Metropolitan Filaret of Minsk and Slutsk, Patriarchal Exarch to All Belarus, chairman of the commission, was attended by Archbishop Hilarion of Volokolamsk in his capacity of deputy chairman of the commission and rector of the Church’s post-graduate and doctoral school, Archbishop Yevgeny of Vereisk, chairman of the education committee and rector of Moscow Theological Academy; Archbishop Ioann of Belgorod and Stary Oskol, chairman of the synodal mission department; Bishop Ambrose of Gatchina, rector of St. Petersburg Theological Academy; Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin, chairman of the synodal department for church-state relations; Archimandrite Ioasaf, rector of Minsk Theological Academy, and other members of the commission – theological academies’ professors, theologians and church scholars.
The meeting discussed the development of a Catechesis of the Russian Orthodox Church.
The participants considered the tasks raised by the transformation of the Synodal Theological Commission into the Biblical-Theological Commission, the situation in Bible studies and training of specialists in Biblical theology.
The meeting also dealt with preparation of a document expressing the position of the Moscow Patriarchate on primacy in the Universal Church.
