Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church: Cooperation with political and public institutions in the far abroad countries is caused by the necessity to consolidate the Gospel principles in public life and to strengthen the positions of Orthodoxy in the world
The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church in his report presented at the Bishops' Conference held at the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour on 2 February 2010 noted that an important component of external church activities is cooperation with political and public institutions in the far abroad countries. "Our work in this field is caused by the necessity to consolidate the Gospel principles in public life and to strengthen the positions of Orthodoxy in the world," His Holiness Patriarch Kirill underscored.
During last year His Holiness met with the US President Barack Obama, President of Bulgaria G. Pyrvanov, President of Montenegro F. Vujanovich, and President of Ecuador P. Correa, as well as with other high-ranking persons in many foreign states. His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia said: "These meetings offer us an opportunity to bring our positions on social and economic problems to the notice of those in power and to draw their attention to the significance of the intransient Christian values for the life of people at present."
His Holiness the Patriarch noted in his report that the Russian Orthodox Church closely cooperates with the diplomatic corps accredited in Moscow; the diplomats being an important connecting link with the governments of foreign states.
